Enva, one of the UK and Ireland’s leading recycling and resource recovery specialists, has unveiled its new Battery Safe Box — an innovative solution purpose‑built for the safe storage and transport of waste lithium batteries, including defective and damaged units.

Designed to hold up to 400kg of lithium batteries with a maximum energy capacity of 20kWh, the Battery Safe Box is engineered to isolate and contain thermal runaway fires, preventing flame spread and ensuring safe handling during storage and transit.

The product has received official approval from the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) after undergoing rigorous fire containment and drop tests. Fully certified to meet UN Dangerous Goods Packing Instruction P911 standards, it offers peace of mind and full compliance when transporting hazardous batteries.

A standout feature of the Battery Safe Box is its Gas Lift Lid, built with an ergonomic L‑shaped design for quick and effortless opening and loading. This directly addresses challenges faced by users of heavy, conventional containers, making battery storage and transport easier and safer.

“The Battery Safe Box demonstrates Enva’s commitment to safe, innovative, and sustainable resource recovery across the UK and Ireland,” said Diane Rainsford, Head of Batteries at Enva. “With lithium‑ion battery fires rising by 46% last year, this tested and accredited solution meets a critical safety need and helps customers transport batteries securely to licensed recycling facilities.”

Mike Sneath, Managing Director at Enva, added:

“Safety, sustainability, and compliance are at the heart of this product. The Battery Safe Box offers clients an approved and reliable option for managing hazardous lithium batteries safely and efficiently.”

Among the first to use the Battery Safe Box, John Henderson, Group Parts Manager at Parks Auto Group, shared:

“For us, this is a game changer. With multiple sites across Scotland, it improves our risk management and supports compliance with both franchise and insurance requirements.”

Key features of the Enva Battery Safe Box:

  • Fire‑Resistant Design: Made from high‑grade steel and insulated to Class 1 fire resistance standards.
  • Gas Lift Lid: Enables fast, easy opening and closing.
  • Toggle Clips: Quickly secure the lid with strong, adjustable fasteners.
  • Front Loading: Allows batteries to be loaded from the front, aiding segregation and reducing manual handling.
  • Forklift and Pallet Truck Access: Slots on all four sides simplify movement and positioning.
  • Stackable Design: Boxes can be safely stacked up to three units high to optimise storage and transport space.
