Intertek, a global leader in Total Quality Assurance, has been officially appointed by South Africa’s National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) to verify post-consumer recycled content in plastic carrier and flat bags.
This recognition enables Intertek to help South African businesses comply with the Compulsory Specification for Plastic Carrier Bags and Flat Bags (VC8087:2013) and SANS 14021 standards. It further reinforces Intertek’s trusted position in regulatory assurance and its commitment to supporting businesses on their sustainability journey.
Helping businesses meet new regulatory requirements
South Africa has strengthened its regulations to reduce plastic waste, requiring manufacturers to include recycled content in plastic carrier and flat bags. These products must also feature clear environmental labelling and receive official NRCS certification before reaching the market.
As a conformity assessment body (CAB) recognised by the NRCS, Intertek offers full support to businesses, providing:
